Oakland Triathlon set to run smoothly

November 28, 2013 by

The Oakland Triathlon will take place in the summer of 2014 in the northern California city. The distances will include Sprint and International Triathlons which will include international 1.5K swim, 40K bike, and 10K run. The sprint course will involve a half-mile swim, 12.45 mile bike and 3.1 mile run.

The swimming competition will take place in the scenic Oakland Estuary, while the biking event will run throughout the beautiful downtown area. Runners will navigate through the Lake Merritt neighborhood, finishing at Jack London Square.

Showcasing the city of Oakland is a prime goal of the organizers. The premise of the triathlon centers on the history of Oakland and the symbolic Oak Tree, which signifies strength and endurance.

Individual participants are assigned by age group category based on the age for the birthdate within the race year as of December 31. A Pro/Elite category includes pros with an elite license issued by USA Triathlon. This enables the individuals at Pro/Elite status to compete for prizes of $5,000 or more at sanctioned events.

Relay teams are allowed to participate and have the option of entering the international or the sprint distance competitions, and must consist of 2-3 people. Sharing the single timing chip, one team member passes it to another in transition.

Banner printing is usually a necessity for outdoor events for directional guidance for the participants. The banners are often created through a qualified print company and are made of heavy vinyl to withstand whatever the weather might throw at them.

The 2014 Oakland Triathlon will take place on August 31. Visit the event website for more information and to register.
