Classical music comes to Tarzana

Tarzana residents, along with those in nearby Northridge, have the opportunity to hear some classical music this weekend.

The Classical Encounters Foundation will host a concert featuring Steven Vanhauwaert on piano and Cecilia Tsan on the cello. The foundation was created to provide an intimate venue for talented musicians. Its mission is to help musicians and provide the community with a place for music-lovers to convene. The venue boasts two impressive Steinway grand pianos.

The organization gives musicians a place to play their music, while also hosting graduate recitals and sometimes gives scholarships. Foundations like this often promote concerts with items like posters from local printing companies.

Vanhauwaert is an award-winning pianist who has played with many professional orchestras and performed around the world. Tsan, meanwhile, is a prizewinning cellist who has toured throughout the world as a soloist and a chamber musician. Furthermore, she is the principal cellist for the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra.

The duo will perform works from famous composers, such as Ludwig van Beethoven’s ‘Sonata in A Major’ and Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky’s ‘Andante’. Since the venue is relatively small, those in attendance have the opportunity to sit close to the performers.

Tickets cost $45 for reserved seating, $35 for general admission, and $20 for students. After the concert, there will be a light dinner, including wine, and an opportunity to meet the musicians and socialize with other guests.

The musical event takes place on January 12 at 4:00 pm at a private venue located at 19365 Lemmer Drive in Tarzana.
