Time again for California Poppy Festival
April 2, 2014 by Mark
Once again California Poppy Festival time is here. The annual two-day event, held in Lancaster City Park, will take place at the end of this month.
This family event is spread out over 55 acres and includes rides, arts and crafts booths, a farmers’ market with locally sourced food, and animals for viewing and petting, as well as loads of delicious festival food.
Celebrating nature in general, and poppies in particular, the annual California Poppy Festival evolved in part from Earth Day celebrations. Each spring, when the flowers in the Antelope Valley California Poppy reserve would come into bloom, visitors flocked to Lancaster where volunteers at the Wildflower Information Center would dispense wildflower maps and other pertinent information. Now, a large festival is held to celebrate spring and the annual blooming of the poppies and other wild flowers.
Attendees are urged to wear comfortable shoes, dress in layers, and arrive prepared with sunscreen and sunglasses. Shopping opportunities abound at this type of event. Vendors come to these events well supplied with brochures and other stationery printing products, so will no doubt welcome any enquiries.
Tickets can be purchased online or with cash at the gate. For guests’ convenience, ATM machines will be posted at entry points. Costs per person are $8 for adults, or $5 for those aged over 62 and children 6 to 12. Children 5 years are admitted free.
It takes place over April 26 – 27 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
