Lancaster cycling enthusiasts will be interested to learn that the route maps for the Amgen Tour of California 2014 have been released. Two days of the world famous cycling event in May will be held in Santa Clarita.
Once again, the city of Santa Clarita is a host city for the tour, and details released last week revealed that the city will be hosting two stages of the event. The world-class cycling tour is in its ninth year, during six of which Santa Clarita has served as a host city. This year ,Santa Clarita will host two start stages of the tour, making it the first city to do so in the race’s history.
Stage 6 of the race commences in Santa Clarita’s Old Town Newhall on May 16. This will be a new location for competitors, who will cycle about 95 miles to Mountain High North. Contestants will return to Santa Clarita the next day, May 17, for Stage 7, which starts at the more familiar Westfield Valencia Town Center. Stage 7 is an 89-mile leg that goes past the Rose Bowl and Colorado Street Bridge before ending in Pasadena.
Last year’s race reportedly generated close to $1m for our local economy. Even cities beyond Santa Clarita can benefit from a flyer printing campaign designed to promote the event or as a tie-in to advertise a business.
