Creativity unleashed through music and art

Kicking off a weekend of arty endeavors, the musical ‘Assassins’ will be performed this Friday, May 31, at the Mysterium Theater in Santa Ana.

This unique musical deals with the variety of ways in which various men and women have attempted to assassinate United State Presidents. An unusual subject, the music and lyrics were written by Stephen Sondheim and won five Tony Awards in 2004.

Tickets are $15 – $25 and it begins at 8:00 pm. For more information, call (714) 505-3454

If the musical gets the creative juices flowing, locals can channel them the following day with the Awaken Creativity Art workshop, which will be held at 19th & West Creative located at 1954 Placentia Avenue #106, in Costa Mesa, just 25 minutes from Lake Forest.

This workshop, led by artist Ty Rose, will use acrylic paint and texture to create works of art on canvas. There is no set design participants must follow, instead they will “feel” their way to an original piece of art.

Cost of the workshop is $50 and includes all materials needed. The workshop will be held from 6:00 – 8:30 pm on Saturday, June 1. Reservations should be made 48 hours in advance and participants should check in no later than 5:45 pm. Group discounts are available for groups of four or more.

Participants should wear old clothes or a smock to protect their clothing. Some smocks will be available at the class. Many art studios offer lithographs of artwork made at local print companies that are considerably cheaper than the originals.
