A busy few days in the region began as chapter members of the ASIS OC held a meeting yesterday, May 15, at Golden West College, 15744 Golden West Street in Huntington Beach, right next door to La Palma.

A demonstration of the new Virtual Interactive Combat Environment Simulator (V.I.C.E.) was presented. The interactive simulator allows up to 13 students to respond to emergency situations. The purchase was made possible through a $500,000 grant.

The Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System will offer certification classes both today and tomorrow (May 16 and 17) at 18000 Studebaker Road in Cerritos, also right next to La Palma.

Low interest rates have created a demand for licensed loan officers. This course is offered at a reduced rate of $329. For more information, call Javier Rodriguez at (562) 237-3683.

Looking further ahead and pre-empting the forthcoming summer boredom of kids, the city of La Palma is now registering for summer day camp which will be held June 17 – August 23.

Camp hours are 6:30 am – 6:00 pm in order to accommodate parents who work. The weekly camp fee is just $129 for residents and $144 for non-residents and includes daily snacks, activities and crafts, and weekly field trips to the pool. Other fun locations, such as Leeway Sailing Center, Legoland and the circus, will feature as part of the deal.

For more information call the La Palma recreation and community services department at (714) 690-3350. Many day camps use a local printing company as a resource for their arts and crafts and registration forms.
