Toy drive to benefit children’s hospital

December 10, 2012 by

A toy drive to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, just 20 minutes from Irvine, will be held from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm on Saturday, December 15.

Collection bins will be located in the associate parking structure and donations should be made on this day only. New and unwrapped toys will be accepted and will be given to support the families and patients at the hospital.

Construction issues have made it necessary to move the drop off location from the main lobby to the parking structure. Gift cards are especially welcome as they will allow for the purchase of urgently needed items. Gift cards from Target, Wal-Mart, Michael’s, Toys ‘R’Us or Babies ‘R’ Us, and Barnes and Noble are especially appreciated.

Suggested gift items include musical toys for toddlers, crib toys, teethers, rattles, talking phones, shape sorters, action figures, building sets, jewelry-making kits, puzzles, crayons or markers, Play-Doh, handheld electronic games, video games, and model kits.

Toys can also be dropped off at a variety of local clinics from Monday to Friday. The Children’s Hospital of Orange County website has full details of all the locations and their relevant points of contact.

Gift cards and cash donations designated for crafts, books or toys can be mailed to CHOC Children’s, Attn. Child Life Department, 455 S. Main St. Orange, CA 92868. Postcard printing is one method that makes it easy to notify local residents and possible donors of needed items, with postcards being fairly inexpensive to mail.
