Energetic weekend ahead in Irvine

June 20, 2013 by

The fast-developing fondness for racing through mud is continued with the OC YMF Mud Run Event starting at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 22, at Oak Canyon Park, 5305 Santiago Canyon Road in Silverado, next door to Irvine.

Among the fun will be a dirty dodgeball tournament. The mud run will begin and end at Irvine Lake and cover approximately five kilometers. The trail covers hills, mud pits, and water and meanders through professionally built obstacles.

Participants should bring a change of clothing and towels. Parking is $10 (or $20 for RVs) and can be paid in cash only. Proceeds will benefit the Orange County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

There is a chance to relax after the run at the Central Orange County Food Swap at 11:00 am on Sunday, June 23, at The Village at 17th Street, 1505 E. 17th Street, Santa Ana.

The food swap consists of a silent auction and a swap of homemade items including preserves, breads, canned goods, baked items, candy, and other items. Items must be made or grown at home. Some inedible homemade items, such as soaps and beauty products, may be accepted as well.

Participants need to fill out a swap card and should bring at least 5 – 10 items. Unswapped items may be donated to the Orange County Food Access Coalition for the distribution to those in need in Orange County. Business card printing is a good way to stay in touch with fellow swappers and to exchange recipes.
