Brea residents to benefit from design workshop

Designers in Brea, as well as those in nearby suburbs such as Irvine, will have the chance to brush up on their skills when a group of experts bring their knowledge to an advice session in the city this weekend.

Focusing specifically on Adobe’s InDesign package, the hands-on workshop will span three days, taking participants on a journey from basic concepts to advanced techniques through the creation of six different projects involving letterheads, business cards, art posters, newsletters, brochures, and art show catalogs.

Instructors will incorporate branding, style and communication values into each section of the lesson plan. Classes will be small enough to facilitate one-to-one instruction, with question-and-answer sessions taking place throughout the day. Students who successfully complete the projects will also go on to receive an official Adobe certificate of achievement.

A workbook, images and supplemental materials will all be provided as part of the course, which is being led by Bob Killen, an Adobe Certified Instructor and nationally recognized photographer of fine art.

Killen, who is based in La Mirada, is known to focus on using creative thinking and encouragement techniques to get the best out of his students and the area’s designers are thought to be excited about the prospect of learning from him and his team.

Those who do complete the course may look to work with local printing companies to create hard copies of the pieces they produce during the workshop.

Adobe InDesign for Designers will take place on Saturday at the OC Photography Center, with the class starting at 9:00am.
