Locals to be in good voice this month

All pedestrians and bicycle riders are being asked for their input on walking and bicycling conditions in San Mateo County.

The Call for Projects workshop will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 11, at the San Mateo County Transportation Authority Office located 27 minutes from Hayward at 1250 San Carlos Avenue, San Carlos. The meeting will be held in the second floor auditorium.

The input is being requested in anticipation of the fiscal year 2014-2015 Measure A Pedestrian and Bicycle Call for Projects. Transportation staff will provide participants with an overview of the measure and how their input will affect recommendations. For more information, call Brent Tietjen at (650) 508-6495.

For those who find that public speaking fills them with dread, there will be a workshop on developing skills for it at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, December 11 at the Popup Hood & Hub, 1423 Broadway, Oakland.

Speaker Join Holley Murchison, founder of Oratory Glory, will teach participants how to stay “as cool as a cucumber” when they have to speak publicly, including handling nervousness and effectively sharing content. These skills will no doubt be useful when the next transportation meeting comes up seeking public input.

A raffle will be held for an additional coaching session and a complimentary ride. Participants at both events should bring digital business cards to hand out to fellow participants.

Holley works in the San Francisco area as a public speaking coach, helping clients to become better communicators.
