First ever citywide garage sale a month away
September 22, 2012 by Mark
The City of Hayward will host its inaugural citywide garage sale in mid-October, offering a great way to eliminate extra clutter from the home and get rid of unused items, while at the same time earning a little extra income just in time for the upcoming holidays.
It will also be a great opportunity to teach kids the principles behind marketing and selling and how to barter with customers. From a buyer’s perspective, garage sales offer unlimited opportunities to find needed items at a much cheaper price than they can be purchased at a retail outlet. Many items at garage sales are in perfectly good condition with only a little wear and tear and will fit into a new household nicely.
The event is sponsored by the city of Hayward and the Keep Hayward Clean and Green Task Force. Free limited advertising will be provided by the city, along with a printable map on the city’s website of all registered sites, and will also advertise in local newspapers. The sponsors and organizers might be considering consulting a printing company to get larger scale maps printed, or indeed getting some flyer printing done to promote the cause.
All participants can register for free and their address will appear on the downloadable map by October 15 on the city’s web site under events, with the sale itself set to take place on Saturday, October 20. Sellers should register by 5:00 pm on October 11 and can call (510) 515-1185 for further info.
