Registration still open for 25th Annual Youth Chess Tournament

March 25, 2012 by

Next Saturday, March 31st, 2012, the Nakaoko Community Center will be hosting its 25th Annual Youth Chess Tournament. The Nakaoko Community Center is located at 1670 West 162nd Street in Gardena, California. This event begins at 9:00am and runs until 3:00pm.

The 25th Annual Youth Chess Tournament has been an outstanding way for students between Kindergarten and Grade 12 to learn how to improve their chess skills. Only residents of California are welcome at the tournament and all participants must know what the pieces on the chess board do and how they move. This competition is designed to allow players of every level to compete against other players of the same level from novice to advance. Space in this tournament is somewhat limited, so those wishing to compete are asked to register early to avoid disappointment. Print companies could find sponsoring chess tournaments a great way to support young developing minds.

Registration for this event is subject to a $5.00 late registration fee from March 20th until March 30th, and a $10.00 late registration free the day of the tournament. This event is being sponsored by the City of Gardena’s Parks and Recreation Department.

Participants to this event may bring a bagged lunch or purchase their lunch at the concession stand inside the community center. Parents are welcome to observe. For additional information, visit the City of Gardena’s website or call the recreation department at 310-217-9537.
