Gardena to host bonsai show

April 28, 2017 by

Residents in Gardena and the surrounding regions are getting spruced up for the 32nd Annual Bonsai Exhibit and Show. The two-day event provides a comprehensive look at the famous tree with demonstrations, workshops, and more.

Sponsored by the Dai Ichi Bonsai Kai, the celebration is actually offering a free bonsai tree to the first 15 newcomers who sign up on the first day. Immediately following the opening of the event, a Beginner’s Workshop will be held, which will help novice gardeners learn all of the basics for tending a bonsai, including the best soil and fertilizers to use, best locations for a bonsai, and some watering and trimming practices.

The expert members of Dai Ichi will also hold special demonstrations, showing off some of their own personal trees while also displaying some of the specific tending practices they use when caring for their bonsai. Many consider this a meditative or therapeutic practice, and the demonstrations will show off some of these aspects. At the end of the first day there will also be a reception and some live entertainment.

The Gardena Bonsai Exhibit and Show will be held next Saturday, May 6 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm and Sun, May 7 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Nakaoka Community Center, located at 1670 W. 162nd St. Admission to the event is free. Anyone looking for more information should check the flyers or visit the website.
