Rachmaninoff kicks off classical season at the Downey Civic Theatre

The classical concert ‘Relishing Rachmaninoff’, featuring piano sensation Keenan Reesor performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in F, will come to Downey Civic Theatre later this month.

The concert opens with a new piece composed by assistant conductor Joshua Roach in keeping with the center’s mission to promote new composers. The piece is entitled ‘Overture Dodeca’. Also to be performed will be Bizet’s ‘L’Arliesienne Suite’.

Reesor is an award-winning pianist who has performed in England, Austria, Hungary, Russia, and the United States. His performances have been aired on KBYU-FM in Utah and KUSC-FM in Los Angeles and he is currently pursuing a doctorate in Historical Musicology at the USC Thornton School of Music. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and three children.

Roach, meanwhile, is a composer, conductor, and music educator and is currently the assistant conductor for the Downey Symphony. As a freelance composer and musician, he was worked with Dream Works Pictures, PBS, Fox, and Turner Classic Films. Roach has a Master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Southern California and frequently composes music for USC student films.

With the concert set to be performed at 8:00 pm on Saturday, October 20. Tickets to the concert are $10 – $35. There are four concerts scheduled for the classical season of 2012/2013 and season tickets are available on the symphony website. The Downey Civic Theatre is located at 8535 Firestone Boulevard, Downey, and may use a printing company to print tickets and brochures, which are often kept as souvenirs.
