GAP Experience Performs in Downey

November 3, 2016 by

California fans of funk and old school R&B will have a chance to see The GAP Experience perform in early mid-November.

Yarbrough and Peoples, known from ‘Don’t Stop the Music’, will open the show. Including many of the original members of The GAP Band, fans have enjoyed hearing funk favorites like ‘You Dropped a Bomb on Me’, ‘Early in the Morning’, and ‘Burn Rubber’ performed live.

Although original frontman Charlie Wilson is no longer with the band, The GAP Experience is clear that its performance encapsulates the original experience of the music. The Experience brings back original members Terry Scott, Roman Johnson, Billy Young, Raymond Calhoun, Oliver Scott, and Jimi Macon, and adds in Charles E. Salter, who is also known as Max’C, to perform lead vocals. Max’C is well known for his tenor range, which spans four octaves.

Yarbrough and Peoples worked with the original GAP Band during the years when the group performed on the Total Experience Record Label. The pair contributed backing vocals and keyboard to 1979’s The Gap Band II before embarking on their solo career. Many modern artists who release CDs use brochure printing to offer liner notes to their customers.

The GAP Experience performs at The Downey Civic Theatre on November 11 at 8:00 pm. A second show will happen on November 13, at Pomona’s Fox Theatre, starting at 7:00 pm. Tickets are available through the theater websites.
