Dana Point gets in the spirit

For anyone who has ever wanted to dress up as Santa and visit local pubs, this weekend is one to clear in the calendar.

The 8th annual Santa Pub Crawl will begin at the Newport Landing at 9:00 pm on Saturday, December 14, located at 503 East Edgewater Avenue in Newport Beach. This event is a fundraiser and last year raised more than $7,200 for Project Access.

Tickets are only $20 and entitle the wristband wearers to drink specials at the pubs. Participants must be dressed in some type of holiday attire. Postcard printing makes an excellent way to notify residents of special events like these.

Dana Point residents will also not want to miss Sunday’s Christmas in Cages in neighboring Silverado at the Ranchos Las Lomas, 19191 Lawrence Canyon. Now in its fourth year, the annual event benefits exotic animals.

Beginning at 10:00 am, this event will include lunch, beverages, and lots of fun. Kids will be able to participate in crafts and listen to holiday music. Guests will be able to watch the Bengal tigers open their presents.

Children aged two and younger are free, all others are $15 in advance or $20 at the door, and this includes lunch. Parking is $5 per vehicle.

Also this month will be the results of the children’s writing contest on the topic ‘Why My Dad Is My Hero’. The event will be held at 10:30 am on Sunday, December 15 at the Aliso Viejo Conference Center. Awards will be presented to the winners.
