Skating competition rolls into town

June 26, 2013 by

Roller skating fans young and old will no doubt want to attend the Southwest Pacific Regional 2013 Roller Skating Championships from 8:00 – 11:00 am this Friday, June 28, at Valdez Hall in Fresno.

This competition is the only one of its kind in the United States. Skaters are judged on costuming, music, showmanship, and choreography. Difficulty of performance takes second place to the entertainment value of the skaters’ routines.

Admission is $7 for the competition and $6 for practice. Contact James Pollard at Pollardsr9137@aol.com for more information.

Elsewhere, admission is only $5 to the annual Freedom Fest celebration on July 4, at the Veterans Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High School located at Nees and Minnewawa Avenues.

The celebration begins at 5:00 pm with music, food, and fun. Fireworks will begin at dusk. Only Safe and Sane fireworks are legal to purchase and set off in the city of Clovis.

To keep everyone safe, guests are reminded to make sure to set off fireworks in a cleared area and keep a bucket of water or a house nearby to douse matches and punks used to set off the fireworks. If a firework is a ‘dud’, do not try to relight it or check to see if it is still burning.

A fun time can be had by all this July 4 if everyone just follows a few safety precautions. Safety flyer printing could help towards this aim and can easily be carried out at a local printing company.
