Music in motion in Bakersfield

It is sure to be a rocking good time at the B Ryders Rocking Sports Bar and Grill when Atlas Genius performs this evening.

The concert for this New Zealand-based band begins at 8:00 pm. Atlas was founded in 2005 and has opened for Coldplay and Robbie Williams. The group’s first album, ‘Reasons for Voyaging’, became a top 10 hit and the single ‘Crawl’ went gold. The band is made up of brother and sister Ben and Beth Campbell along with Sean Cunningham. B Ryders is located at 7401 White Lane, Bakersfield.

Then, on Wednesday, May 22, at 8:00 pm, punk band Primus will perform at the Fox Theatre, 2001 H Street, Bakersfield. Originally an underground phenomenon, this band quickly became popular within the mainstream. The album ‘Sailing the Seas of Cheese’ went gold, and the group’s second album, ‘Pork Soda’, debuted in the top 10 in 1993.

A tour in 1993 included a headlining performance in Lollapalooza, and Primus’ fifth album was released in 1995 and went gold. A new drummer in 1996 was followed by two new albums and a tour in 2000.

Primus’ album ‘Antipop’ featured guest artists James Hetfield of Metallica, and Jim Martin, guitarist for Faith No More. The group’s most recent album was released in 2011 entitled ‘Green Naugahyde’.
