Entertainment ahead for Bakersfield fans of rodeo and art

Fans for the sport have two rodeo events to attend in Bakersfield within the next few days.

First up is the PRCA Rodeo, which will be held at the Kern County Fairgrounds in the Coors Grandstand Arena

Taking place this weekend September 27 – 28, the rodeo begins at 7:30 pm and tickets are $15 for adults box seats, or $12.50 for general and handicapped seating. Children’s tickets are $12.50 for box seats for children age five and younger and $10 for general and handicapped seating. Tickets are available at the Emporium Western Store.

Straight after, on September 29, the Fiesta Del Charro Rodeo will be held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm’ Gates open at 6:00 pm and the rodeo begins at 7:00 pm.

General admission is $5 and children age five and younger can get in free. For more information call (661) 833-4900.

For those more appreciative of art than rodeo, the Bakersfield Museum of Art will host a picnic in the museum’s Sculpture Garden this Sunday.

Families can bring a picnic lunch and a blanket to sit on while enjoying artist Roland Petersen’s paintings of picnics.

Petersen’s works will be on display through January 14, 2014. Admission to the museum is free for members, $5 for adults, $4 for seniors age 65 and older, $2 for students, and children age six and younger are free.

Museum hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Tuesday through Friday and noon to 4:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Reprints of fine works of art are often available through local printing companies.
