Bakersfield preps for tasty mac and cheese festival

April 12 might be some time away yet, but that did not stop the organizers of the Macaroni & Cheese Festival in Bakersfield from promoting the upcoming event on a local television program, ‘First Look with Scott Cox’, last Thursday.

American General Media Inc.’s Jessica Beattie was accompanied by Lourdes Nilon, the manager of the Children’s Miracle Network over at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, and they stopped by the program to discuss the upcoming festival.

The festival was launched in 2011 in Paso Robles by American General Media, Inc. The purpose of the festival is to let people try out macaroni and cheese dishes prepared by local restaurants. This year, the festival is coming to Bakerfield, and the proceeds will benefit the Bakersfield Memorial Hospital’s Children’s Miracle Network.

Along with appearing on TV, the promoters of the event can spread the word with flyer printing. Flyers can be hung at participating restaurants and in the waiting area at the hospital.

Participating restaurants include Hot & Smokin’ BBQ Catering, which present host Scott Cox with a sample of its mac and cheese. Cox described it as “smokey and awesome”, calling the crust “unbelievable”. There are more than 20 area restaurants participating, and the top three favorites will receive a People’s Choice Award. It is recommended that people come with an appetite and avoid eating before leaving home.

Tickets to the event are $45 and are available online.
