The 12th annual Writing Your Personal History Symposium will take place at the Vienna Community Center on May 3 from 10 am-2 pm. Tickets are $25 and an extra $7.50 for a boxed lunch; attendees are welcome to bring their own lunch.

The symposium consists of four memoir writing workshops led by authors; all levels of writers are welcome to attend. Each presentation is 50 minutes and consists of writing techniques of storytelling, creating characters and how to develop an idea.

The four workshops are:

1. Projecting your voice on the page – presented by Sandra Beasley
2. From idea to story – presented by Clifford Garstang
3. Creating more texture in characters – presented by Art Taylor
4. The many routes of memoir – presented by Dianna Hennessy King

Everyone feels that they have a story to tell but they don’t always know where to start. Of course, some writing talent is necessary but a memoir does not need to be a literary classic so anyone of any level can tell their story in book form. It helps to have some direction when writing a memoir and workshops such as these will inspire some to finally get started on telling their story. After the workshops, those who have managed to complete writing their memoirs can have them printed out for their friends and family to enjoy. Vienna printing companies can help them to create a personal keepsake volume that they will be able to pass on with pride and that will last for years.
