Festival of the Arts celebrates cultural diversity in Richmond

The annual Festival of the Arts at Dogwood Dell is taking place in Richmond until August 31, offering a variety of performances throughout the summer that celebrate the diverse music of the United States.

This June, Freedom Fest 2013 celebrates ‘Gumbo: a night of blues, jazz and light R&B from Central Virginia’s Finest’. Another event in June is the 4th Gospel Music Fest, which will feature host Shielah Belle and the music of several artists, including Byron Cage and Erica Campbell.

July sees the Independence Day Celebration on July 4, which will feature cannons, and a fireworks display. Music will be provided by Simply Kevin B, a Carillon Bell concert and the Richmond Concert Band. One other performance in July will be ‘Melana: a cultural and musical journey into my Afro-Cuban Roots’ which features Latino music and dance.

There are several other performances of note during the Festival of the Arts and admission is free for all. Richmond printing companies have probably provided services such as brochure and flyer printing services to the organizers of the festival.

Freedom Fest 2013 takes place on June 19 from 8:00 pm, and the Gospel Music Fest will follows on June 23 beginning at 5:00 PM. The Independence Day Celebration will start at 5:45 pm on July 4 and Melena will take place on July 14 beginning at 8:00 pm.
