Annual event raises funds to fight hunger in Fairfax County

The 6th annual Empty Bowls community fundraiser event is taking place later this week. It raises funds for, and is hosted by, Our Daily Bread. More than 300 people are expected to attend this year’s event.

Attendees purchase a handmade bowl in which they are served a dinner of soup and bread, and they can take the bowl home with them. In addition to the meal, there will be live musical entertainment and a silent auction. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $100 and only 100 will be sold, with prizes including vacations to Disney World and the Kennedy Space Center.

Sponsorships are available for local businesses and individuals, ranging in price from $300 to $5,000. Sponsors will be recognized on signs advertising the event. Advertisements to be placed in the program booklet are also available for purchase.

Our Daily Bread provides temporary assistance to those in Fairfax County who are facing hardships. This includes the Food Bridge, financial assistance, and the purchase of school supplies.

To help advertise events such as this, organizers often work with local print companies to produce marketing materials. Items such as posters and flyers are then distributed throughout the area, including to nearby McLean.

Empty Bowls will take place at the Sherwood Community Center in Fairfax City on February 27, beginning at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door, while the price per child is $10 or $25 for three. To learn more about this fundraising event, call 703-273-8829.
