Reston to run for the troops

The 4th annual Firecracker 5K for the Troops will help to support the United Service Organizations (USO) of Metropolitan Washington.

The day will start off with a color guard. Those participating in the 5K will receive a T-shirt, a pin, and a commemorative glass; cash prizes will also be given out to top three finishers of either gender, and there will be awards for the top three in each age-based category. A kids’ run will also be taking place, for which all participants will receive a bib and a medal. Those attending are also asked to bring school supplies to donate to the USO.

After the run, there will be a street festival. It will feature brunch for race participants, a children’s area, food concessions, music, and free massages. There will also be a draw for a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Reston printing companies will probably be helping the organizers of the run get ready by providing products such as banners, signs, and flyers.

The Firecracker 5K for the Troops will take place at Reston Town Center on July 4 beginning at 8:00 am. Adult participation fees are $35 if registered before July 1, $40 for registrations received on July 2 and 3, and $45 on the day of the event. Children’s fees are $20 until July 1, $25 on July 2 and 3, and $30 on July 4.

For those interested in the July 4th street festival, it will take place at the American Tap Room beginning at 8:30 am.
