Reston joins in with the holiday excitement
November 19, 2012 by James
November is now well in swing and the holiday fun is all set to begin. Most communities in the United States hold several celebrations of the holidays beginning just after Thanksgiving Day and Reston is no exception. The city will be holding several events at Reston Town Center on November 23 to kick off the holiday celebrations. No doubt local printing companies are helping to get the word out about the events through such services as flyer printing.
The day will begin with the Gingerbread Man Mile and the Tot Trot. Children between pre-school and high school will compete in the races. Awards will be handed out to the top three girls and boys in each age category. The race will begin at 8:00am and children will be gathering pledges to raise money for Neediest Kids.
The Reston Holiday Parade will start at 11:00am and travel from President’s Street to Freedom Drive. The parade will feature floats, marching bands, community groups and, of course, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. Children in the audience will receive jingle bells. After the parade, Santa will be posing for photographs with children from 12:30pm – 4:30pm and a 5×7 copy of the photograph can be purchased for any donation.
The evening will consist of the Tree Lighting and Sing Along in Fountain Square at 6:00pm and carriage rides will follow from 6:30pm – 10:00pm. Tickets for the carriage rides are $5 or free for aged five and under. Proceeds go to support Volunteer Fairfax.
