Reston honors MLK with long weekend of events

This year, the city of Reston will be holding several events to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Day is celebrated on January’s third Monday and most communities in the United States hold events on that day or over the preceding weekend. No doubt Reston printing companies are helping organizers to prepare for these events and spread the word to the community.

On January 19, several Community Service Projects will be taking place at the Southgate Community Center. This will be followed by a volunteer lunch from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm. Later that day, the Reston Community Orchestra will perform a Musical Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Reston Community Center, beginning at 4:00 pm.

One of the major events taking place during the weekend is the MLK Keynote Address and Community Lunch, which will be held at the Reston Community Center on January 20 from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm. This year’s special guest speaker will be Julian Bond – a former legislator and veteran of the Civil Rights Movement.

Earlier that day, Especially for Youth will take place at the Reston Community Center’s Hunters Woods from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm. This will feature activities and entertainment for children in grades one through six. At 3:15 pm the same day, a Commemorative March will take place at the Lake Anne Plaza. The Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation will alsopresent Voices of Inspiration at 4:00 pm.
