Reston festival is seeking volunteers

The 14th annual Reston Multicultural Festival, which is taking place this September, is currently looking for volunteers. Over 100 volunteers are needed to ensure the smooth running of the event. Volunteers must be aged 13 and over, and will receive a food voucher and a t-shirt.

Various jobs that will be manned by volunteers include floaters (who help wherever they are needed), parking attendants, survey takers, concession assistants and activity assistants (to help with children’s arts and crafts activities). Shifts run from two and a half to five hours.

The festival, which is presented by the Lake Anne of Reston Condominium Association and the Reston Association, is a celebration of the various cultures that are represented in the Reston area. The event always starts off with a naturalization ceremony for new citizens. It also features musical entertainment, cultural performances, food, arts and crafts for kids, and cultural costumes. Last year’s entertainment included Hawaiian music and African dance. It is a family-friendly event which definitely will appeal to everyone no matter what their age.

Reston printing companies have likely been contacted by festival organizers to help them prepare. This might include banners to highlight various areas or flyers to help advertise the event throughout Reston. Local community groups might also invest in booklets and brochures to hand out to visitors.

The Reston Multicultural Festival will take place at Lake Anne Village Center on September 28 from 11:00am – 6:00pm. For more information or to volunteer, call 703-476-4500.
