2013 Valor Awards to honor those who go the extra mile

March 25, 2013 by

Presented by the arlington Chamber of Commerce, the 31st annual Valor Awards will be taking place in less than a month’s time.

The event honors those in the police, fire, and sheriff’s Department who have taken part in a heroic action or have gone beyond the call of duty to serve the public. Those who are honored are nominated by their various departments.

The Valor Awards usually start off with a color guard, the reading of the Pledge of Allegiance and then a speech by a local dignitary. This is then followed by the awards ceremonies. Over 300 people showed up for last year’s awards presentation and the figure will probably be close to that again this year.

Sponsorships of the event are available for local businesses and range in price from $275 to $3,750. Donations can also be made to enable those who are nominated and their families to attend the ceremonies for free.

Given the prestige of the awards, the organizers of the Valor Awards are probably working with Arlington printing companies to prepare. Sponsors of the event will be recognized on the day, so there is probably a need for sign and banner printing services. The winners of the awards also receive plaques or certificates, which may also be provided by local print companies.

The Valor Awards will take place at Joint Base Mayer-Henderson Hall in Fort Mayer on April 17 from 11:30 am – 2:00 pm. Tickets are $55 for chamber members and $65 for non-members. For more information, call the Arlington Chamber of Commerce at 703-525-2400.
