Gala addresses animals in need of support in Alexandria

February 4, 2013 by

It will soon be time for the Mardi Growl Gala in Alexandria. The gala, presented by the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, helps to raise funds for the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter.

The Vola Lawson Animal Shelter is the only one in Alexandria and it provides such services as spaying and neutering, pet adoptions, and public education on animal welfare. The Gala will feature a silent auction, a raffle, hors d’oeuvres, a special “howlicane” beverage, dancing, a caricature artist, and live jazz music from Blu Neffu. Everyone who attends will receive free beads, boas, and masks – costume dress is suggested. Guests will also have the chance to recognize the King and Queen of the Krewe of Barkus, with this year’s choices being Kerry and Eva Donley, who are long-time supporters of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

Sponsorships are also available to local companies from $500 – $5,000, and most of the sponsorship levels include access to a special VIP reception. All sponsors will receive recognition in the program booklet given to everyone who attends, which will no doubt be produced and provided by Alexandria printing companies. Local companies can also donate items for the silent auction to boost their local profile and do a good deed.

The 3rd annual Mardi Growl Gala will take place at the US Patent and Trademark Office on March 8 from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm. Tickets are $85 each or $150 for two. For more information, contact Diana Cole at 703-746-4774.
